Was looking for years for this!, better than speed creams. Light oil gives long spin times. Love it

    Good oil great applicator

Posted by Seven Spirals on 3rd Jul 2020

I will compare Uncle Charlies oil and applicator with the others I've used which are Singer sewing machine oil, Oust MetOl, Bones Speed Cream, Norvey Turbine Oil, and Mobile-1 Full Synthetic 0W-16 motor oil. First off, Uncle Charlies has the best applicator and cool pen-like container. The long metal tube is perfect for applying small amounts of the oil directly onto the ball bearings. This avoids mess, but more importantly means you won't over lubricate the bearings without intending to or attract dust. It has the same viscosity as Norvey but is slightly heavier than Oust MetOl, which would be the closest competitor. For roller skating it really depends on how often you want to service and maintain your bearings as to what you should use. For example, some folks use white lithium grease since it lasts a very long time. However, I do heavy maintenance in order to keep optimal performance. I re-oil my bearings after about six hours of skate time on them. So, for maximum performance go for the lightest and thinnest oil you can get. Uncle Charlies Magic Wheel Oil is a great choice for people like me since it's quite thin. Uncle Charlies is the best overall combination of oil applicator tip and actual oil quality. If you are a person who likes to work on their skates like me, go for Uncle Charlies first. MetOl and Singer oil are also quite good. If you want to oil them only once every 50 hours or so, go for Norvey Turbine oil. If you plan to never lube your bearings and instead you plan to replace them completely, go with some form of grease. If you want poor performance and broken promises, go with Bones Speed Cream. If you want the cheapest possible oil and you just don't care, go for Mobile-1 0W-16. It works especially well on 608ZZ fully shielded bearings since you can just immerse the entire bearing in the oil and drain it out & clean it afterwards.

I use this for my skates, but I recently used it to lubricate an old selectric typewriter...it was perfect.
